Proposed Regenerative Agriculture Project - thoughts

There are 5 ways clubs can participate in encouraging Regenerative Agriculture as a solution to the climate problem:

1.  Educate ourselves about Regenerative Ag

2.  Encourage our members to join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to support local farmers who are employing regenerative agriculture practices.                Check out “Regenerative Consumer Toolkit” from http://projectgrounded.com/

3.  Support Farmers financially to compensate them for sequestering carbon from the atmosphere.  There are a number of ways to do this as a way to offset the impacts of our carbon footprint.

Nori – The Carbon Removal Marketplace  I paid $15 a ton to offset a flight to California which  was paid directly to a farmer for sequestering carbon through regenerative practices

4.  Support efforts to educate farmers about the benefits and detailed practices of regenerative ag as well as sources for special equipment for regenerative farming.

Many organizations offer trainings for farmers on regenerative practices

Local ones are Cornell, County

Onondaga County Soil & Water Conservation District offers no-till ag equipment rentals

Many others nationally:  Soil Health Academy, Grassfed Exchange, Savory Institute, Farmer’s Footprint …

5.  Support the passage of legislation to accelerate soil health and adoption of regenerative ag.

Check out “Soil Health Initiatives in New York: Building Momentum” by Peter Lehner of Earth Justice and Elizabeth Henderson of the Northeast Organic Farmers Assoc.

Explore State Healthy Soil Policy Map

Support national legislative efforts such as the Earth Bill that generates support for Regenerative agriculture.  Supported by the Earth Bill Network.
